Access to safe, stable and appropriate housing has become one of the most pressing challenges facing Stratford. As our community continues to grow, we need a greater supply and variety of housing for people at different ages, incomes and stages of life.
The City has taken steps to support new housing through streamlined approvals, appropriate increases in density, better use of municipal land and partnerships with housing providers and developers. That work must continue.
Municipal action alone, however, will not be enough. Meaningful progress on affordable, supportive and community housing will require sustained investment and cooperation from the provincial and federal governments.
My Priorities
- Support a greater supply and variety of housing across the entire housing continuum
- Continue improving the efficiency of municipal planning and approval processes
- Encourage gentle density, infill development and responsible use of available land
- Identify appropriate opportunities to use municipal land in support of housing
- Work with private, non-profit and community partners to create affordable and supportive housing
- Advocate for Stratford to receive its fair share of provincial and federal housing investment
- Encourage developments that are connected to transit, green space and essential community services
- Ensure new housing contributes positively to established neighbourhoods and the broader community
